| Location: Where’s Gnarabup? It’s about a three-hour-drive south of Perth, on the Kwinana and Bussell highways. When you reach Margaret River town, hang a right along Wallcliffe Road until you reach Caves Road. Drive straight across, and when you can see the sea, follow the road to the south (past the right turn to Surfers Point and Prevelly) and that’s Gnarabup. Bayu is at the highest point, with the best views. | ||||

| This 140k track hugs the coast most of the way
from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste – and should be experienced
by everyone visiting the Margaret River region, even if it’s just
for a couple of miles. Our favourite bits are the stretches north of Margaret
River Mouth, and then a bit further south of Bayu, near Conto’s Spring.
There is even a trail-head for the track right across the road from the
house: just walk up the drive to the road, turn right and look for a track
between large white limestone rocks going uphill. Follow that to the south
(you’ll have to walk on some 4WD track for a while) before it drops
down into Black Boy Hollow and then on to Boodjidup River. Cross on the
bridge, walk to the beach, and then you can trek back along the beach to
the house – or make a day of it and keep going to Redgate or Contos
(how are you going to get back?)
